Nowadays, global production of biofuels is booming under the force of higher oil prices. Biofuels are produced from renewable resources such as agricultural plants, organic waste etc. The main biofuels widely used is ethanol and biodiesel today, which can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels (oil, gas). Biofuels as a clean energy, have huge potential for renewable energy development.

Most industrialized countries have launched programs to encourage biofuel production several decades ago. The technological breakthroughs made biofuels production as a profitable business. Government supported investment in building and enlarging ethanol plants.  The biofuel industries is promoted.

At the same time, biofuel production have impacted the environment and agricultural structure. Recent years, developing countries suffer most from rising food prices. Food crisis is likely to top the agenda of world. For sustainable development, public polices for production of biofuels should do not threaten food security. The growth of biofuels production, which is expected to rise from 11 billion liters a year in 2007 to about 24 billion liters by 2017, means more grains, oilseeds and sugarcane will be used to make biofuel.
